The Trench Coat
Two things happened recently. I watched Trinny on Facebook reels, she’s wearing gorgeous greys and lifting them with neon yellow, and I saw a gorgeous light grey silky trench coat in a window in Paris, which I couldn’t stop thinking about.
I ended up searching Vinted for Light Grey Trench and ordered a light grey trench from Warehouse. But if your struggling to find the perfect fit, take a look at my top tips and favourite high street finds. And don’t forget to check second hand stores too.
Starting with the more traditional trench coat, let's look at & Other Stories and Matalan.
Both these coats are gorgeous but with different price tags. I really like the rain hood on the Matalan coat, making it very practical.
Spending a little more should mean longevity in your clothes. Often there is more stitching, better quality fabric and a more flattering cut. However the high does a great job to create garments that work on a budget.
Matalan: Khaki, Black or White £40
& Other Stories Beige £165
Understanding your body shape will also help you pick the right length and fabric or decide to avoid them all together. For example, a good friend of mine is a petite full hourglass. So she needs to be sure that it is a soft floaty trench with a soft belt to pull her in at the waist as the fabric falls over her lovely curves. She’s better in a short trench so she can show off her legs.
However a rectangle will be best in a stiff fabric that creates the impression of curves.
This jacket from Zara is a Trench inspired Jacket. It you are a pair or a rectangle this is the perfect coat for you as it created shape just where you need it.
From the stiff sharp edgy jacket at Zara to the soft, floaty silky one at Geolia. If you have curves, you may find trench coats just don’t work. There stiff shape makes you look bigger or shorter. For all our curvy ladies, try fabrics that fall softly over your curves and tye the belt around the smallest part of your waist.
Colour is also important. It’s to easy to go for the traditional Tan. If you are natural or have a warm undertone thats ok. But if you are cool toned or looking for something a little more quirky or romantic. Take a look at this trench at Oliver Harrison London. It comes in 6 colours and is currently reduced from £99 to £45.
