Do you prefer a Burgundy or Claret?

This season we usually see the odd damson, burgundy or claret. But after the A/W catwalk, much burgundy and other red wine tones were everywhere. From Gucci to Channel, you will see many shades of dark red including mahogany, claret, burgundy, damson and oxblood in shoes, coats, dresses and nail varnish.

Let's see what translates to the highstreet and how to wear it.

Let's start with the one that excited me the most. George at Asda have joined forces with Roksander to celebrate London fashion week. They are taking burgundy to the next level with dramatic fashion looks which look more expensive than George clothing.

Some of these items aren't for the faint hearted. They are contrasting the moody deep wine tones with bright pink, orange and blue. I love it. These pinks and oranges are a great way to make this deep, soft colour work on lighter, coller or softer colour types.

M&S have some fabulous pieces, notably the shoes and bag collection. These two looks are similar with the wide leg trousers and comfy, gorgeous jumpers. However if you struggle to wear the darker tones, opt for burgundy down below or just in accessories and shoes.

Zara has a great mix of dark damson, claret and burgundy shades. I’ve picked the cooler looking damson shades. All these shades come up in the Burgandy edits at Zara. And  I will have to check out Hypnotic Vanilla Dream, their gorgeous looking fragrance.

I also spotted some basics, such as a tank top in Burgundy, alongside some dark navy - a very sultry combo.

Last but not least, lets take a look at some colour combinations to try this autumn. Inspire your wardrobe by looking for items you have in one of these combinations. Then see what you need to add to complete the look. Depending on your colour type, depends which combo will look great on you.

It does depend which way round you wear these colours, but heres a rough guid on how to use them for your colour type.

  1. Use the pinks close your your face if you are light, soft and cool. Brighten the look up with white if you are a bright.

  2. For those who are soft and natural, this combo is a classic way to wear it. Use light colour by your face if you are light in your colours.

  3. This autumnal combo is fab for our warmer colour types who need to avoid the more plumby shades.

  4. Soft and fresh.. This combo will help use some of last seasons lilacs if you wear this soft light colour.

  5. Another soft and warm combo. Muted natural stones and creams or minks and soft whites looks safe and chic.

  6. If you are ward and bright add a splash of bright green and white to add contrast.
