The Perfect Pair of Jeans

Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a nightmare. They may be too high or too  short, too dark or too light, too stiff or too loose. With so many different styles to choose from it can feel daunting, however it also means there really is something for everyone.

Here are my top 5 tips to finding the perfect pair of Jeans:

Understand your body shape. This is the first most important thing to know. When you understand your shape and scale you can start to hunt for the best cut for you. With so much choice there really is something for everyone.

Hourglass: Skinny, jeggings, bootcut, flare, cigarette jeans. Most fitted shapes will work. Avoid stiff heavy boyfriend cuts unless you're making a fashion statement. Look for a high waisted or midrise. Consider a soft, light to medium weight denim.

Full hourglass: Skinny, jeggings,  bootcut, flared, (carrot leg if tall) jeans. Wear a fitted jean and avoid big bulky heavy straight denim. You may like a cigarette jean depending on your height. Look for high waisted jeans. Go for stretchy and soft denim.

Pear: Bootcut and jeggings. Keep it high waisted and soft. Keep it simple and darker on the bottom.

Apple or Strawberry body shape: Boyfriend, straight or wide leg jeans. You can take a stiffer fabric. You can take a side pocket.

Rectangle: Straight, Cigarette and boyfriend jeans. Pick something with detail on the pockets. Avoid soft and floaty denim or a belt.

Athletic/ Inverted Triangle: Your figure loves a wide leg, straight or bootcut jeans, carrot, dad. Avoid skinny jeans, although you probably struggle to find ones that fit.

Every bodys shape has a different scale meaning there are many more shapes than the typical 9 body shapes. To find out your detailed body shape and scale consider booking a style consultation.

Consider your best colours.

Lights are great in acid wash, light grey or light blue denim.

Deeps are best in black, dark blue, indigo and brown jeans.

Warms are great in Deep blues, mid blues, creams and browns.

Cool are great in Black, white, acid wash, greys and cool blues.

Brights are good in black, deep blues, white and bright coloured denim.

Softs are good in faded blues, creams, grey and faded colours.

And remember, you can easily express your style personality with a fab pair of jeans. Check out this mix of floral and patterned styles above. You can dress them up or down and have smarter or more casual pairs. Have fun with them once you find your most figure flattering shape. Try jeans with a casual shirt and trainers, t-shirt and boots or with a pretty top and heels.

A Few more things to consider:

Second hand denim isn’t just sustainable but its softer and worn in making them a better fit sometimes.

Buy jeans a little on the snug side. They stretch and soften.

Avoid washing too often. And don’t tumble dry. They will last longer.

Patterned jeans from River Island, Levis, Herman & Co, Cider, Gap, Jo Browns
