Packing for a week away

It’s that time of the year, we are pulling our suitcases and getting excited to go away for a well deserved break. What does that look like for you? Exploring and adventure, relaxing and swimming or somewhere more local that you go back to each year? Wherever it is, you can use this guide to help you pack smart and allow your wardrobe to work hard.

Here are my top 5 tips for packing for a week away.

  1. ROLL OR FOLD

I roll on the way out and try to roll on the way home. I find it easier to fill the space well and I definitely get more in. However if I have awkward shapes like shoes I may fold or scrunch items around those to fill the space better. You can also use packing cubes.

2. UTILISE YOUR SHOES

Wear your biggest shoes if possible and stuff underwear or perfume bottles in your shoes you pack to make sure you are using up all the negative space. You only need 3 pairs of shoes depending on the type of holiday you are going on.

  1. Heels or going out shoes.

  2. Sandals, flip flops or sliders

  3. And trainers or boots. Every day comfy shoes.

If you are someone who loves slippers but are short on room, consider socks with grips instead.

3. CHOOSE 5 COLOURS

Create a capsule wardrobe using just 5 or 6 colours.

1 Metalic, whichever suits you best, gold or silver.

2 - 3 of your neutral colours. For example navy, cream and taupe or black, white and beige. Think of a dark, medium and light neutral colour. This will ensure many of the items you take all go together, helping you create more looks with less items.

2 fashion colours (also known as your wow colours). For me it's bubblegum pink and cornflower blue. Often they are the colours you love or are drawn to and therefore have a lot of. This will help you pack without buying too much more.

4. WEAR YOUR BULKY ITEMS

You can also pack the bulkiest items in the top of your case. Sometimes I consider buying items away. Check your luggage allowance for the way home and check if it’s the same as going out. You can also consider sharing your partner or kids cases. Children are often given the same allowance as us but don’t take up as much space.

5. Recommended List

For one week away I recommend :

1 Hoodie, jumper or sweater

1 Denim shirt or cardi depending on your preference.

1 Light jacket or blazer

1 Coat or jacket. I often opt for a light rain coat and layer with my jumper. It depends on the climate.

5 Day tops, 3 Night tops that double up as day tops. Consider dressing up everyday outfits with jewellery and make up. No more than 8 tops all together. (one could be part of a co-ord)

1 pair of denim shorts

1 skirt (Could be a half a co-ord)
1 jeans

1 dresses Could be your Co - Ord

Accessories:

3 pairs of earrings

3 necklaces

Bracelets

1 or 2 light scarfs

1 or 2 belts in different colours if applicable

2 or 3 different lipsticks.

The accessories are an important part of the list. They are small and lightweight but can have a big impact when creating different looks with a small amount of clothes.
