How To Wear Red This Season

Everyone has a shade of red. Are you a fan, do you know your best shades? Or do you struggle? Are you scared of this darring strong colour?

It’s no wonder some people avoid it. On one hand it’s seen as sexy, romantic and the colour of love. On the other hand it's the colour of blood, monsters eyes and fire. Don’t wear red if you are the boss of a wellness team as you will become unapproachable. Don’t wear it in stressful situations or when seeing people with a nervous disposition. Do wear it when you want to look strong or sexy, wear it when you want to have fun and stand out.

There are many ways to wear red from top to toe or just as an accent. Let's explore what shades suit who and what's on the high street.

6 shades of red

As a light/cool I only have one red, Geranium. It’s often hard to find. Red is typically a warm colour. However many cool shades exist from burgandy and geranium tyo true red or cherry. This season we saw a lot of red on the catwalk, this excites me as I know it means we will see a huge range of reds in the shops. So it’s a great time find and add it to your wardrobe.

Check out my recomomendation about if you know your dominant colour type.

Normally I don’t get excited by H&M but they have a fabulous array of light bright reds. Next week I'm going to talk about sequins but I couldn’t walk past this gorgeous sequin dress and not mention it. Wearing it with red tights and heels really elongates her legs.

Burgundy is one of the darkest shades of red. This skirt and shirt will look great on people with darker eyes and hair. Wear the squirt with a jumper for a smart casual look to lunch.

This blazer dress is perfect for all our dramatic classics. It’s in a beautiful bright warm red.

Zara is warm and sleek this season. There are varying shades but most are warm and bright. I have shown you some more relaxed casual looks here. I think it’s too easy to assume red is a dressy colour when in fact you can wear it in a casual natural way.

Ruffle sleeve details are great on a pear or neat hourglass. Wear this comfy casual red t-shirt with jeans or wet look jeggings.

Jumper dresses are very on trend right now, I love this one because it's an oversized shape. For anyone who is put off by the jumper dress because of a bloated belly, this is for you.

These leather look burgundy skinny trousers will look great with a pair of chunky black boots and a roll neck jumper or dressed up with a silk shirt and shoes.

Mango is currently on my radar more than normal. I love this simple sequin halterneck dress. It looks light and soft in colour.

This red and cream striped jumper offers a small not too red. If top to red is too scary but you want to give it a go try this.

And last but not least check out this stunning and controversial  jumpsuit. Red and pink are like marmite, and I love marmite. Very sleek and dramatic.

M&S are covering the classics. I recently bought a gorgeous red ruched sleeve blazer which I look forward to showing you on the Yummy Mummy Style hub.

There are so many tops to choose from, I've picked a pretty boring one here, however I wanted to show you how well luxury neutrals work with red. These wide leg cream trousers and bretton striped sweater look effortless, chic and well dressed with a red top.

I’ve seen a few red coats in burgundy and brighter shades but this statement piece will last the test of time in any wardrobe.

And as always, they have their stretch waist, stylist but comfy wide leg trousers in red. They have a few variations at M&S. So go check them out.
